The Use of Task Complexity in Developing English Speaking Proficiency of EFL Students at the Eleventh Grade of SMA Cendrawasih Makassar

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to find out the result of using Task Complexity in developing the English speaking proficiency of EFL students at the eleventh grade of SMA Cendrawasih Makassar. Using a single class for pre-test, treatment, and post-test, the study applied the pre-experimental technique. The eleventh-grade students of SMA Cendrawasih Makassar were the research population. The saturation sampling technique was used to determine the sample. The results showed that the post-test mean score (4) was greater than the pre-test mean score (2.125). Additionally, the t-test value was greater than the t-table (7.727) > (2.201), indicating a significant difference between pre and post-tests of the students' speaking proficiency. It can be concluded that the eleventh-grade students of SMA Cendrawasih Makassar had better in speaking proficiency by using task complexity.
