Improving Student’s Speaking Ability Through Word Formation at the Second Grade of SMA YP PGRI 1 Makassar

Abstract

This research discusses teaching speaking using word formation material technique for second grade students at SMA YP PGRI I Makassar. The aim of this research is to determine the use of word formation materials in improving the speaking skills of second grade students at SMA YP PGRI I Makassar. This research uses an experimental design method. The sample in this study consisted of 30 students selected using purposive sampling techniques. In collecting data, this research used speaking tests, namely pre-test and post-test. The results of this research indicate that the use of word formation is effective in improving students' speaking abilities. This is evidenced by the average post-test score being higher than the average pre-test score (2.391>1.518 ). Apart from that, the t-test value is greater than the t-table value (16.665 > 2.045) at a significance level of 0.05 with a degree of freedom of 29. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the use of original materials can improve the speaking ability of second-grade students at YP PGRI I High School Makassar.
