The Effect of Using Social Media on Students English Writing Ability at the Grade of SMA YP PGRI 1 Makassar

Abstract

 This study investigates whether Facebook can influence the writing ability of eleventh-grade students at YP PGRI I Makassar Senior High School. The research was conducted in the eleventh-grade science class of YP PGRI I Makassar during the academic year 2024/2025. The sample used in this study consisted of 30 students, selected through total sampling techniques. The research design was pre-experimental with a pre-test and post-test format. The data results indicate a significant difference in the improvement of students' writing abilities, with the post-test scores being higher than the pre-test scores (71.55>30.49), and the results of the t-test exceeding the t-table (32.762.201). Based on the analysis, it can be concluded that English writing instruction utilizing Facebook can positively affect the writing skills of eleventh-grade students at YP PGRI 1 Makassar Senior High School.
